Celebrating World Postcard Day and The Power of Connection Through Philately
October 1st marks World Postcard Day, a celebration of the humble yet powerful postcard. For over 150 years, postcards have bridged distances, connected people, shared stories, and captured moments in the most precious, fragile of mediums - a little rectangle of card, enabled by another precious, fragile item - a stamp. For philatelists and postal historians, postcards are a canvas for stamps and a snapshot into both postal history and social history. We love postcards.
Most people get a warm fuzzy feeling when a postcard arrives, but philatelists… their hearts beat a little faster…
Postcrossing: Connecting the World, One Postcard at a Time
One of the most exciting ways to celebrate World Postcard Day is through Postcrossing, a global community of postcard enthusiasts and a proud member of the Philatelic Traders’ Society (PTS). Postcrossing connects people from around the world by enabling them to send and receive postcards from strangers, some of who become friends. It’s a simple yet profound way to share cultures, stories, and, of course, stamps.
Over 800,000 people from 209 countries are members of Postcrossing, and over 83 million postcards have been sent since the project’s concept 20 years ago. In the last hour (at the time of writing), 1,335 Postcrossing postcards have been received! That’s a lot of stamps too!

Free Postcard: Visitors can pick up a free postcard to send to a loved one or add to their collection. This year’s Stampex postcard was designed by our competition winner, Fran Searle. Special Royal Mail Cancellation: Don’t miss the opportunity to get a unique cancellation mark by posting your postcards in our special Royal Mail postbox on Stand 24 - a must-have postmark for any philatelist.
