The design, called "Penny (stamp) for your thoughts" marks 185 years since the introduction of the first penny post, linking a popular phrase to one of the core purposes of sending a postcard; sharing thoughts and feelings. The design draws inspiration from the colours, typography and print style of the era, whilst incorporating nostalgic postal imagery of a traditional post box and a robin redbreast - the name once given to postal workers due to their red uniforms. Origami paper planes are also included, symbolising how the penny post made it possible for written messages to travel easily over long distances.

Designer and competition winner, Fran told us: "I'm thrilled and honoured to have won the Stampex postcard competition! I love to brainstorm ideas and concepts, and had so much fun developing this design. Thank you!"

We received so many fantastic design entries into this competition so we want to thank everyone who entered. The judges loved learning about your inspiration and passion for philately and Stampex.

The judges selected two runners-up from the entries so we wanted to share these with you.

Designer: Charlotte Hogg

Inspiration: “I am so excited to send my design for Stampex. I included the Stampex Bug, some letters, a postbox and a queens head stamp as that is my favourite. I love looking at stamps and learning about them.”

We asked Charlotte if she has a Stampex Bug toy and she told us she has two!

Runner Up Design by Christian Smyrek at PhilaTec

Designer: Christian Smyrek at PhilaTec

Inspiration: “A "Stamp Rain" for children spreading free stamps to encourage them to collect.”

We had a chat with Christian about his Stamp Rain concept and he shared this wonderful image of a real life stamp rain experience. Perhaps this is something we can introduce to Stampex in our Youth Zone? We look forward to hearing more about Stamp Rain projects.
